Power Active program
Forge-1
A bounded research prototype for examining how equipment availability, controller state, and timing interact inside aggregate critical-power systems.

- Status
- Active research prototype
- System class
- Aggregate critical power
- Validation
- Not validated for facility deployment
01 / Purpose
Critical power can survive isolated faults and still fail in combination.
Conventional contingency checks often examine individual component loss. Forge-1 is being developed to explore sequences in which equipment availability, controller thresholds, qualification delays, and transfer logic interact over time.
02 / System boundary
A bounded model of the transfer path.
- Utility
- Source qualification
- ATS / Breaker
- Critical bus
- Critical load
03 / Model interface
Model inputs and outputs.
Input parameters
- Equipment ratings and availability
- UPS and battery capacity
- Generator start and qualification timing
- ATS and breaker states
- Voltage and frequency thresholds
- Transfer and lockout delays
- Injected equipment and controller events
Output record
- Deterministic execution trace
- Controller-state transitions
- Transfer timing
- Critical-load service state
- PASS / FAIL outcome
- Machine-level failure reason
- Explicit assumptions and model boundary
04 / Execution model
From initial state to forensic trace.
- 01
Define
Describe aggregate equipment, controller thresholds and timing assumptions.
- 02
Inject
Apply one or more equipment, sensing or controller events.
- 03
Execute
Advance the deterministic state model through qualification and transfer logic.
- 04
Trace
Preserve the state transitions, timing and outcome for engineering review.
05 / Boundary
Research boundary
FORGE-1 IS A RESEARCH PROTOTYPE. IT IS NOT AN ELECTRICAL-DESIGN, COMMISSIONING, OPERATIONAL-CONTROL, OR SAFETY TOOL. IT DOES NOT REPRESENT A COMPLETE FACILITY ONE-LINE DIAGRAM, PROTECTION-COORDINATION STUDY, OR ELECTROMAGNETIC-TRANSIENT MODEL. ALL OUTPUTS REQUIRE INDEPENDENT ENGINEERING REVIEW.
06 / Current status
The active work is validation.
The immediate objective is to demonstrate that a bounded model can reproduce a known interacting failure sequence from declared inputs without hardcoding the final outcome.
